When many people think about field service technicians, the technical part is sometimes forgotten. If one works out of a van, fixing things, the tools usually associated with the job include your hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. As we’ve received all these great photos of field techs’ most indispensable “cool tools,” however, the technical side of field service has been a recurring theme.

We’ve certainly received some pretty “cool” photos (and stories) in response to our “Cool Tool” Contest, in which field service workers can win an iPad 2 simply by sending us a photo of themselves with their favorite tool. The following submission might not tighten a bolt or drive a nail, but to this tool’s owner, it’s no less valuable to Pablo, who explained in his email to The SmartVan:

This is my most essential tool, my Seagate 640-GB portable hard drive. All my life is that little piece of plastic and metal, all my programs, music, videos, installers … everything.

I need to find a way to connect my hard drive to the iPad 2 that you’ll send me. LOL

Thanks guys!

Pablo works for Control Communications, Inc. in Davie, Fla, a team of radio installers and service professionals who also provide wireless services. Thanks for sharing, Pablo, and good luck in the contest. For those of you wishing you could get your hands on an iPad 2, there’s still time. Check out the “Cool Tool” Contest Page for instructions and submit a photo today!
