New market research suggests that more than 70 percent of the U.S. workforce is already mobile, connected to the Internet, colleagues and the back office through smartphones and other mobile devices flooding the market. The report, conducted by InfoTrends and reported by Mobile Enterprise, reinforces the need for service managers to adopt — or else.

The report, “Mobile Knowledge Workers: Emerging Opportunities,” identifies the mobile worker as “arguably the fastest-growing segment of the office workforce today” and suggests the importance of mobile will continue through 2014, and likely beyond — leaving service managers to grapple with the many mobile platforms and devices on the market.

The report lays out that business with service branches must adopt mobile to remain competitive, stating:

The challenge facing technology vendors and service providers is to provide mobile tools and services that enable knowledge workers to easily plug into the existing IT infrastructure and business processes without creating additional layers of complexity and costs.
